Iva Pekárková | It is the story of Jindřiška Gin a somewhat naive taxi driver a person who is too honest in everything except in bed who in a profession as tough as that surprisingly feels at home. Gin came to the United States as an illegal immigrant after which she legalized her situation thanks to a marriage – actually not so fake – with Malijc Talib. Jindřiška looks with surprise and without prejudice at all aspects of New York and always looks for love when she arrives anywhere. Her daily adventurous existence eventually turns into a gangster story.
Is it an autobiographical novel?
No I am not Jindřiška although of course I am similar to her in her way of seeing life and in part in her life philosophy. Among other things I arrived in the United States legally as a political exile so I didn't have to go through those horrible ordeals to get the papers. But everything that Jindřiška experiences all the characters all the taxis all those incredible adventures all of that is from life. I took great care to ensure that every street in New York every corner and every weedy lot in the least prestigious neighborhood was described realistically.
